HOPI ARIZONA

HOPI ARIZONA

The Ruins were Grandmother Parisha’s perfect seguing to the Mesas in Hopi country. We arrived the at the original people’s traditional village; they use no electricity or modern conveniences. We gathered; as Grandmother Parisha briefed us all on the proper etiquette of the village. We visited with the Matriarch of this tiny  slice into history. and she was pleased to meet us all . We walked through the one street town stopping in to appreciate the crafts and assorted items offered for sale. The people were all so friendly and happy to see us, smiling back at us. The visit lasted several hours and when we left with crafts and purchases, we went to the restaurant.

The restaurant served heavenly fry bread with honey and all sorts of yummy foods, we devoured. While eating all the delicious foods; Grandmother Parisha shared stories of how it used to be here. One of us asked how the Hopi came to be on the Mesa’s; instead of the flat lands below. She explained that the surrounding tribes kept expanding and raiding the Hopi’s food stores. The Hopi were not a warring nation; so they kept moving higher up to escape the raids.Where they are now situated; they have a natural military vantage point. They would run up the canyon walls and push rocks down to discourage any attackers. We stayed for a few hours laughing and talking eating and sharing. When we finally left the restaurant; the sun had set, and we drove down the winding roads into the night. We were complete in this part of the country, and we stopped that night at a roadside hotel
